The Picardy coast, with its 60 km of coastline is renowned for being the least touched by urban development in France. The Somme bay is a sanctuary for many different bird species : The diverse range of species makes this one of the most interesting sites for observing bird life in Europe. The Festival of Birds and Nature is set in this naturally abundant area. It is held in various locations, from Abbeville to the Somme Bay.
During the 3rd week in April, the Festival offers numerous workshops, aimed at children aged between 4 and 12, held in Abbeville (80) and the Maison de l’Oiseau in Lanchères (80). The objective is to discover nature through a range of educational and entertaining activities. During these workshops, the younger festival-goers can make weathercocks, feeding tables, nest boxes and even bat houses and nests. There are numerous conferences held throughout the event. The bird is the focus of all of the subjects discussed. These meetings are led by animal photographers and the bird park guides from Maison de l’Oiseau. Lastly, a photography and film contest is held to award the most observant bird watchers. Why don’t you have a go yourself ?
