The town of Laon is the largest protected area in France. In total, the city has over 80 historic monuments. Built around 1150 to 1230, the Notre-Dame Cathedral is one of the most remarkable Gothic style buildings. The Bishop’s Palace next to the cathedral has preserved its medieval charm. On the forecourt, the Hôtel Dieu is one of the oldest hospitals in France still standing.
